Agriculture, Health, and Food: The Best Sectors for Creating Biotechs in Chile.
Although the industry has been labeled as nascent and complex, the low production costs, the lack of resources that force the creation of efficient solutions, and the quality of the scientists can make the country an ideal place to enhance biotechnology. However, the limited funding for research and the lengthy product validation processes continue to be challenges that must be addressed.
From companies like NotCo, which have used biotechnology to create healthy mayonnaise, to drugs that cure Alzheimer's and cancer, biotechs have positioned themselves globally as one of the most powerful industries for the future. Their rapid development has been precisely due to the need to solve actual health and environmental problems, aiming at a global market and improving people's quality of life.
Thus, stakeholders in this ecosystem assert that though Chile has not yet become such a developed industry, in recent years, there has been an increase in scientific entrepreneurs who have committed to generating these types of solutions, even managing to establish themselves in Silicon Valley.
